The Contra Costa County Department of Information Technology's Telecommunications Division is offering an excellent employment opportunity as a Telecommunications Specialist II. The Telecommunication Division is located in Martinez, CA and is responsible for analyzing, installing, maintaining, servicing and repairing all telecommunications equipment and systems in County Facilities. The ideal candidates will demonstrate: • Journey-level experience requiring considerable skill and knowledge in the installation, diagnostics and repair of telephone, networked voicemail and other data communication systems. • Ability to work independently to perform complex or specialized assignments • Ability to provides project leadership, and training for lower level staffThe employment list established by this recruitment will remain in effect for one (1) year. • Plans, installs, project manages, repairs, services, and maintains telephone systems including networked and hosted voicemail systems • Constructs and assembles custom designed and/or off the shelf telecommunications equipment • Provides technical assistance on design, planning and engineering of systems for new construction, remodeling or moves • Provides cost estimates and project coordination • Applies knowledge of voice telecommunication technology and methodology to PBX administration, Cloud based telecommunication, networked and hosted voicemail and other systems as required • Installs, repairs, services and maintains telecommunications systems and equipment, including complex PBX switches, network switches, wiring, devices, cable and peripherals • Uses test equipment and software programs to troubleshoot telecommunications and network equipment; installs fiber optic, CAT6 and other appropriate cabling • Trains and supports users of the different voicemail and PBX systems • Works with various levels of county staff to define voicemail needs and requirements, auto attendants and PBX user requirements, policies and procedures • Trains lower level staff as required • Works cooperatively with clients and coworkers in a service oriented environment • Processes telecommunications service requests and repair orders • Maintains a variety of telecommunication data in MS Office applications including Visio software and/or other written formatsLicense Required: Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator's license. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator's license will be accepted during the application process. Education: Twelve (12) semester or eighteen (18) quarter college units in telecommunications, electronic technology, or closely related field. Experience: Three (3) years of full-time (or the equivalent of full-time) journey level experience performing installation, servicing, and repair of a variety of telecommunication instruments, equipment, and systems. Telecommunication Specialists have to intermittently and at times repetitively during the day: bend, squat, and kneel to retrieve and handle supplies, perform repairs, complete installations, etc. They will lift, move and carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds in general office areas and occasionally from other sites. They may reach at full extension or overhead while pulling on a repetitive basis. They may be required to maintain awkward positions for extended periods of time, lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds to complete repairs or installations of phones repetitively, may also spend the day climbing up and down ladders and pulling cable through ceiling and walls. The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices. CONVICTION HISTORY After you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you have received a conditional job offer.
