General Definition of Work:
Performs intermediate skilled support work for the office of Economic Development. Work is performed under the general direction of the Executive Director. Essential Functions/Typical Tasks: Performing research and marketing duties to assist the office of Economic Development in the areas of public relations, communication, and social media. Coordinates the activities of councils, boards, and committees; assists with special projects; maintains records and files. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities toperform the essential functions.) • Establishes working relationships with Economic Development Corporation and affiliate staffs, local government staff, resource providers and professionals, and business and community leaders. • Coordinates day-to-day operations related to Economic Development department activities, including but not limited to the Cabarrus EDC's business recruitment, retention and expansion efforts as well as general marketing and communications with community leaders, board members and investors. • Coordinates projects and marketing strategies by working with Cabarrus EDC staff and community leaders, determining needs, analyzing trends, scheduling and coordinating meetings, implementing strategies, preparing and submitting reports, and developing solutions and strategy analysis. • Assists in site analysis by preparing information packets, working with developers, realtors and area landowners, researching properties and businesses, and participating in facilitation of prospect tours. • Prepares proposals for clients and responds to inquiries/requests for information. • Coordinates meeting opportunities through prospect analysis and contact strategies in preparation of trade show and targeted market visits. • Aids in the development of marketing and/outreach materials to ensure public exposure to program offerings through print publication design, web site editing, social media, e-newsletters, direct mail and other applicable mediums. • Maintain and update Economic Development Corporation website with timely and relevant information. • Documents, tracks and generates reports regarding the Department's efforts through a client-tracking database. • Organize, coordinate and execute the necessary functions of any industry councils, and any other programs sponsored by the Economic Development Corporation, including coordinating speakers, guests and participants, facilities, registration and notification announcements. • Assist all senior staff with the coordination of Economic Development Corporation Board of Director meetings, and any other boards or councils organized by the Economic Development Corporation. • Conduct research as needed on areas of assistance and programs available from local and regional public and private sources. • Conducts research to identify emerging needs, trends, and services related to assigned area of offerings, and compiles and analyzes data. • Performs related tasks as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of public, internal and community relations, and social media; thorough knowledge of writing and editing; thorough knowledge of website content development; thorough knowledge of the organization, function and method of operation of the Cabarrus County; working knowledge of office equipment, computers and applicable software; ability to write news articles and releases; ability to gather and analyze facts on a variety of subjects matters and to assemble and present concise reports and presentations; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with news media and the general public; ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, orally and in writing; ability to manage events; ability to attend work regularly; ability to be self-directed in performance of duties. Education and Experience: Requires graduation from an appropriately accredited college or university with a degree in marketing, communications, economic development, public or business administration, finance, or a related field. Three or more years experience in communications, marketing and/or public relations is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Physical Requirements: This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires reaching, standing, walking, and grasping; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions. Special Requirements: Requires occasional travel. Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the state of North Carolina.
