Evaluates internal operations to ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws and regulations. Enforces environmental ordinances applying to industrial and commercial facilities. • Monitor activities for compliance with environmental regulations; • Identify training needs in environmental laws and regulations; • Provide technical assistance on environmental issues related to permit; compliance, regulations, or
departmental policies; • Educate industries, commercial businesses, and the public regarding; federal, state, and local environmental regulations; • Operate, calibrate, and maintain automatic sampling equipment to monitor industrial and commercial stormwater and wastewater discharges; • Review results of lab tests on samples to determine effect of discharged wastes on wastewater treatment facilities or water sources; • Work with establishments to gain compliance with environmental regulations by development of specific discharge permits, calculate surcharge, inspectindustrial and commercial facilities, and prepare enforcement actions such as warnings and notices of violation; • Assist in preparation of reports to regulatory agencies documenting; compliance activities and results; • Respond to hazardous material, chemical, wastewater, or other spills to; provide technical advice and assistance when on-call; • May supervise the work of Environmental Field Technicians in collecting; and analyzing samples, or recording data to monitor compliance; • Perform related duties as required.Completion of a bachelor degree in environmental science, biology,toxicology, chemistry, or a related field and one year of environmental experience; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: Valid Current Driver's License Physical Exam Required Must obtain Solid Waste License within 12 month Wastewater C - obtain depending on position Knowledge of: • Federal, state, and environmental regulations related to municipal operations.;For Wastewater Sampling and Monitoring: • Physical, chemical, and biological technologies as they relate to analysis of water quality. • Basic principles and terminology of data processing. • Prepare and maintain records and documentation for compliance purposes. • Communicate effectively with others. • Monitor operations for compliance with environmental regulations. • Collect and analyze stormwater, wastewater, or other samples. • Work cooperatively with industries, commercial establishments, and municipal departments to attain compliance. Ability to: • Analyze water and wastewater and interpret and report on results. • Read and understand technical reports and directives, maps, charts, and related materials associated with hydrologic and hydraulic studies and investigations. • Communicate information clearly and concisely. • Establish and maintain effective working relationships. Physical Requirements: • Frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds. • Frequently walk and stand during the shift. • Frequently bend and kneel during the shift. • Frequently climb stairs and other inclined surfaces. • Occasionally push and pull objects. • Frequently rotate upper trunk to the left or right while sitting or standing. • Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle
