Duties Summary Reporting to the President and CEO, and serving as an integral member of the management team, the Managing Director of External and Governmental Affairs is responsible for planning, directing, and executing the IAF's internal and external communications, public affairs activities, and Congressional and intergovernmental outreach. The goal is to advance the agency's position with
relevant constituents, as well as to drive broader awareness and donor support for the foundation. Learn more about this agency Responsibilities • Collaborates with IAF's President and management team to develop and implement an integrated strategic communications agenda to broaden awareness of the IAF?s unique approach, model, and relevance. • Collaborates with IAF's President and management team to increase visibility of its programs, priorities, and impact across key stakeholder audiences and to facilitate the building of programmatic and funding partnerships. • Oversees the design, development and dissemination of high quality communications, using the full range of media and communication methods. • Develops strategy for and oversees the development of IAF?s social media and outreach strategy(ies) and the design and production of the social media and outreach programs. • Leads the drafting, makes recommendations, reviews and clears the content and format for all IAF communications materials as well as for the IAF Web site and other digital media. • Develops a public affairs strategy and coordinates all public affairs activities to enhance relationships with targeted, external audiences, including Congressional audiences, the media and key influencer's. • Develops media strategy and oversees relations with the media and broader public; promotes public understanding of the impact of the agency's programs. • Engage Congressional members and staff to provide information about the IAF?s work, and advance the agency's interests affected by the legislative process. • Coordinate IAF response to congressional requests for budget and programs briefings, congressional and staff delegation site visits. More specifically, this requirement involves experience: overseeing the production of communications (e.g. social media, articles, briefings, news releases, videos etc) to convey technical and non-technical information; developing, implementing, and evaluating communications and public affairs strategies; writing articles or other documents suitable for distribution to external audiences and/ publication; developing legislative strategies and working with Congressional members and staff to provide information about or advance an organization's interests; and preparing speeches and briefing papers for senior officials. Applicants must demonstrate knowledge of social, geographic, political, economic, cultural, environmental issues and challenges of Latin America and the Caribbean. Experience leading, supervising, or managing a staff is preferred. • *In order to be eligible for the GS-15 level, you must possess at least one year of specialized experience that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the GS-14 level in the Federal service.**Specialized experience is defined as experience that is in or directly related to the line of work of this position and has equipped you with the knowledge and competencies to successfully perform the duties of this position. More specifically, this requirement involves experience: managing teams AND overseeing the production of communications (e.g. social media, articles, briefings, news releases, videos etc) to convey technical and non-technical information; developing, implementing, and evaluating communications and public affairs strategies; writing articles or other documents suitable for distribution to external audiences and/ publication; developing legislative strategies and working with Congressional members and staff to provide information about or advance an organization's interests; AND, preparing speeches and briefing papers for senior officials. Experience leading, supervising or managing a staff is required. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. ### Education ### Additional information • *Telework Suitability:** The duties of this position are suitable for occasional telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval and if they meet the eligibility criterion in the 2010 Telework Act. • **Stipulations of Employment:*** Selection may require completion of a 1-year probationary period.
