Additional Department Summary:Under moderate supervision, assists the Executive Director of Museums in promoting museums programs and memberships. This position supports communications and public relations efforts for the Alabama Museum of Natural History, Discovering Alabama, Gorgas House, Moundville Archaeological Park, Office of Archaeological Research, Mildred Westervelt Warner Transportation Museum, and the Paul R. Jones Museum. This position oversees the production of the Museums Chronicle magazine and other publications, manages and generates interesting educational content, including video, for top-level social media accounts for UA Museums, and works to recruit and retain members of UA Museums. Required Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Marketing, or Advertising and one (1) year experience in journalism, public relations, marketing, or communications; OR Master's degree Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Marketing, or Advertising. Related student or Graduate Assistant, Intern, or student oriented experience will be considered. To be considered student experience, it must be detailed in the employment section on the application. Skills and Knowledge:Strong oral and written communication skills, including writing and editing. Basic knowledge in the use of personal computers and standard application software (word processing, spreadsheet and/or database management programs, etc.). Good organizational, interpersonal, and public relations skills. Upholds confidentiality during all assigned tasks. Detail oriented, work with minimum supervision, comfortable with learning UA software, flexibility to assist with other office activities. Preferred Qualifications:An interest and/or experience in science and/or museum education or outreach. Knowledge and experience with videography preferred.
