This position will be assigned a caseload of offenders and will provide initial and on going counseling as needed for the purpose of correctional adjustment, offender program planning, offender family crisis, maintaining case review schedules, answering requests and proving information to offenders as needed. This position must prepare review and edit written work to ensure compliance with policy and procedures. Effective verbal/written communication with other staff, offenders, and the general public. Be capable of defending one self against attack by violent persons. Work under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders who can become physically violent/verbally abusive. Prepare written reports/forms which accurately reflect information reviewed from various sources. Review, analyze/evaluate various documents and behavioral data gathered from interview/documentation/personal observation. The work of this position will be subject to periodic audit. This position will also be assigned additional duties which may, or may not include duties for unit programs, institution programs, offender transfer, offender releases, and/or other duties may be assigned. This position requires basic keyboarding skills, and the ability to learn and use the OPUS computer system.Listed below are the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) associated with this position. • **Documented knowledge of supportive counseling techniques*** Completion of a two year associate degree program in criminal justice, human services, recreation or a related field; or graduation from high school and two years of custody experience within the NC DOC or two years of human services experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
