SALARY GRADE: GN11 This is a full time position (40 hours per week) with state benefits including retirement, health insurance, vacation leave, sick leave, and paid holidays. This position is based at the Central Region Training Center located in Apex, NC, and instructs primarily at the NC Justice Academy - East Campus in Salemburg, NC. Overnight travel is required. This position is responsible for presenting blocks of instruction for Basic Probation / Parole Officer Mandated Training (245) hours and for Certified Instructor level training in the Office of Staff Development and Training (OSDT) section of the Department of Public Safety (DPS). Employees in this position are required to obtain and maintain additional instructional certifications as required. Employees in this position are responsible for conducting basic training, writing lesson plans and objectives, reviewing existing lesson plans, assisting other trainers and instructors, and writing evaluation reports. Work includes researching materials for course development, developing course objectives, modifying course content, and participating in evaluation of courses. Work is performed under direct supervision of a Correctional Training Coordinator I and is subject to review and evaluation through reports, student feedback, and stakeholders. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Qualified Applicants Must Possess And Their Application Must Clearly Reflect Work Experience That Demonstrates The Following Listed below are the Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) associated with this position. These KSAs, along with the Minimum Education and Experience Requirements listed, are required in order to be deemed "eligible" for the position. • Possession of current General Instructor Certification AND Instructor Certification in at least one of the following specialties: Corrections Specialized Firearms; Controls, Restraints, and Defensive Techniques (CRDT); or Wellness or Fitness. • Instruction or training experience in teaching the procedures, practices, and/or operation of the NC Department of Public Safety. • Experience in developing and presenting instructional material (such as, but not limited to, researching course material; operating supplemental teaching aids; and/or composing course plans, lesson plans, course objectives, instructional strategies, examinations, and/or course syllabi). • Ability to formulate ideas and communicate them in written and oral form. • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication with students, fellow instructors, supervisors, and members of the general public. ADA Physical Requirements will be discussed during the interview. Management Preferences • Four-year degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, or a related field. • Two years of OSDT Adjunct experience. • Four years of Probation / Parole Officer experience. • Instructor Certification in two or more of the following specialties: Corrections Specialized Firearms, CRDT, Wellness or Fitness, and/or CPR (from American Heart Association, American Safety and Health Institute, or Red Cross). • Experience using PowerPoint to develop and/or present instructional material and experience using Microsoft Word. Minimum Education And Experience Requirements Bachelor's degree and two years of directly related instruction and training experience in the subject matter specialty; OR graduation from high school and five years of experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have current required certification with the ability to maintain any and all certifications required by OSDT, NCDPS, and by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
