Masters and/or certification in environmental specialty area preferred; or any equivalent combination of training and experience Preferred Qualifications Previous experience with institutional safety and environmental programs. Position Summary This position will be responsible for ensuring that all SREL research programs involving chemicals and other hazardous substances are conducted in a safe and secure manner in compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations. This position will report to the SREL Assistant Director to ensure that all appropriate permitting, oversight, and coordination activities are in place for research activities conducted by SREL personnel and visiting scholars. This position will serve as the subject matter expert for development of all non-radiological Project Safety Appraisals needed by SREL staff to conduct research on the Savannah River Site. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies Ability to act calmly in emergency situations. Ability to interact with research staff and communicate well. Ability to develop, implement, and enforce safety programs and protocols. Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local safety and environmental regulations. Ability to accurately document events and keep safety related databases. Physical Demands Willing to lift up to 50 pounds. Is driving required to perform essential duties outlined in this position?
