Work type:Temp Full-Time Location:Main Campus (Gainesville, FL) Categories:Education/Instructional, Research/Scientific/Grants Department:02120000 - PV-CNTR PRECOLLEGIATE EDUC Classification Title OPSE Exempt Job Description This OPS position will assist with the design, coordination, teaching, and follow-up activities connecting precollege secondary school science teachers and students with scientists and current laboratory-based research, focusing in the areas and technologies related to the biosciences. This position works on a National Institute of Health Science Education Partnership Award and affiliated programs with a focus on bench and translational research related to emerging pathogens. Other significant responsibilities include assisting in coordination and teaching in an Academic Enrichment program for undergraduate students underrepresented in the Health Professions. Specific Duties Include • Collaborating closely with Center faculty and staff on instructional needs, learning/training technologies, and all aspects of program recruitment, planning, coordination, teaching, assessment, reporting, and dissemination. • Developing, coordinating, creating/modifying curricula, and working with research faculty to teach teachers and students in laboratory-based biomedical programs. • Maintaining knowledge of current practices and trends in the biomedical, emerging pathogen, and science education fields. • Serving as a liaison between UF science and engineering researchers and teachers throughout Florida. • Providing on-line and on-site assistance for grant activities. • Overseeing equipment maintenance and loan program. • Engaging participants in post-project and networking activities and tracks program outcomes. • Presenting and publishing program outcomes and associated research. • Analyzing and evaluating external educational resources with consideration for cost, impact, and suitability. • Developing program budgets, monitoring expenditures, and preparing reports. • Assisting in administrative reporting, budgetary, and fund-raising aspects of assigned programs. • Participating in opportunities to develop and seek funding for new educational research and outreach programs/events. Advertised Salary $50,000 to $55,000 annually; commensurate with education and experience. Minimum Requirements Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Qualifications • Doctoral degree in biological science is preferred. • Master's degree with at least 2 years of biotechnology laboratory research.
