Senior Media Officer Job No.: ****** Work type: Continuing * Full time, continuing role * $94,222 - $108,005 per annum plus 17% Superannuation * Based at La Trobe's Melbourne (Bundoora) campus About the role The Media and Communications team is responsible for raising the reputation and profile of University activity through proactive placing of stories in the media (traditional and digital media) and responding to media enquiries. The team works closely with internal communications, student communications, content marketing, social media and other related functions in the wider Marketing and Recruitment division. As a critical member of the media team, the Senior Media Officer provides expert media advice and strategic communications support across a wide range of outputs and activities in a complex, specialised environment. This includes * Making a significant contribution to the development and implementation of University-wide cross-channel communications strategies that promote and build the core strengths and brand values of the University to key audiences. * Working closely with researchers, academics and other key stakeholders to develop innovative, engaging and informative content for both traditional and digital media channels, in order to maximise positive media coverage of La Trobe University's people, ideas and priority activities, as well as minimise negative coverage. * Developing and maintaining strong relationships with journalists and media thought leaders at a local, state and national level. * Moving quickly to receive and resolve media queries from working journalists on breaking news stories and emerging issues. The candidate To succeed, you will possess: * A degree in media, public relations or communications - or equivalent experience. A substantial number of years' experience as a journalist, media/public relations or communications practitioner - and with proven connections to working journalists and experience in pitching stories and resolving media queries. * Proven ability to develop and implement successful media/communications strategies and campaigns. * Excellent interpersonal skills; a proven ability to effectively collaborate with, motivate and influence internal and external stakeholders at all levels of organisations. * Excellent written and verbal communications skills including strong writing, story construction and editing skills across wide-ranging communications channels. A demonstrated ability to understand and synthesise complex ideas into clear, succinct copy. * A high degree of initiative, tenacity and problem-solving skills, and an ability to manage several different projects concurrently.
