The Department of Corrections (DOC), Larch Corrections Center (LCC), is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for a permanent Corrections Specialist 2 position, responsible for managing the facility Training and Grievance program(s). This position is located at Larch Corrections Center in Yacolt, WA. FACILITY PROFILE Larch Corrections Center opened in 1956 with the current operating capacity of 480 residents. LCC is a minimum custody facility located on a relatively remote 40 acre site, approximately 20 miles northeast of Vancouver, WA. The site is leased from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The DNR also maintains a facility on site and provides work for the residents. LCC employs about 120 staff members. AGENCY PROFILE The DOC, as a partner in the criminal justice system, enhances public safety, administers criminal sanctions and programs in accordance with the law, and provides leadership for the future of corrections in Washington State. The Department consists of the Office of the Secretary, Prisons Division, Correctional Industries, Community Corrections Division, Policy Support Division, Administrative Services Division, Offender Change Division, and Health Services Division. The Department employs over 8,300 staff and has a biennial budget of approximately $1.8 billion. Duties include but are not limited to: • Ensure compliance with Agency training practices and requirements, understanding department training curriculums, and provide formal training to groups of employees, supervisors, and managers. • Track and report training attendance, completion and compliance; monitoring progress of Correctional Officer on-the-job-training (OJT) program, providing recommendations to supervisors for staff training needs. • Develop yearly in-service training calendars and curriculum for uniformed and non-uniformed staff. • Provide information on Washington Administrative Code (WAC) and other training mandates as needed. • Ensure all new correctional officers are meeting requirements while attending the agency law enforcement academy. • Work with supervisors to assess training needs of staff and recommend training to meet needs of those staff. • Develop training plans to meet legislation, policies and/or government mandates . Work with other department heads at LCC to schedule the use of the Training room for functions other than training. • independently organize and monitor the Offender Grievance Program; represent Larch Corrections Center in statewide grievance committee meetings. • Coordinate with department heads and other staff to effect resolution of grievances. • Supervises the processing of offender grievances at all levels to ensure time requirements are met, prepares monthly report summarizing offender grievance activity. • Ensure that pertinent grievances are discussed with the Superintendent in a timely manner. • Conduct disciplinary hearings in compliance with applicable WAC's and department policies. • Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: • At least five (5) years of corrections *experience in adult or juvenile corrections.OR • At least three (3) years of corrections *experience in an adult or juvenile setting.AND • Satisfactory completion of at least two (2) years of college (60 semester or 90 quarter credits) from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).*Note: Corrections experience means the focus of the work is dealing directly with residents a majority of the time In addition to the above, this positions requires: • Ability to draft letters, memoranda, and reports. • Ability to work independently. • Ability to read, understand, and interpret policies and procedures. • Ability to work effectively with others and communicate effectively, both verbally and written. Preferred Qualifications: • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). • Ability to apply conflict resolution skills. • Experience in developing training programs and curriculum, and administering training for staff in large/small groups, or on an individual basis.
