This is the first of five levels in the Accounting Series.
Incumbents compile, review, track, and correct financial data, and create financial reports. Responsibilities may include identifying, assessing, and documenting assets; depreciating assets;
updating spreadsheets; reviewing data for errors and initiating corrections; entering data; reconciling assigned ledgers, bank statements and/or reports; completing journal entries; tracking revenues; and processing and reviewing standard reports. (The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. Other duties may be assigned.) • Performs a variety of accounting functions, which includes: reviewing payables; reconciling accounts; preparing accounting schedules; preparing payroll; processing checks; coding and entering information into a database; and performing related tasks. • Monitors general ledger activities, which includes: preparing and entering journal entries for various adjustments and corrections; analyzing and resolving accounting issues; preparing recurring journal entries; conducting year-end closings; and performing other related tasks. • Tracks, monitors, and updates assets which includes monitoring registers, calculating depreciation, updating spreadsheets, preparing for and performing audits, and performing related duties. • Prepares, submits, reviews, and analyzes a variety of reports, reconciliations, and statements to and from internal departments, financial institutions, and external agencies; makes recommendations based on findings; distributes reports and provides accounting information as requested. • Assists other departments with accounting issues, which includes: tracking revenues and expenditures; calculating withholdings and payroll adjustments; maintaining employee files; and performing other related activities. • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position does not require supervisory responsibilities.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor's Degree and one year accounting experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Prefer Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or closely related field.
