Salary: Depends on Qualifications Parish: Orleans Job Type: Student Intern Work Status: Part-time Reports to: Public Information Director About Us Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East (the Authority) is responsible for more than 190 miles of levees/flood walls, 5.4 miles of seawall, eight complex navigation gates, three permanent pump stations, 244 floodgates, many valves and relief wells, 56 miles of drainage canals and eight drainage pump stations. All levee systems and their component parts under the jurisdiction of the Authority must be operated and maintained in strict accordance with Federal mandates and guidelines. Mission Our mission is to ensure the physical, operational and financial integrity of the regional flood defense system, and to work with appropriate local, regional, state and federal agencies and officials to plan, design, construct, operate and maintain projects that will reduce the probability and consequences of flooding in the Authority's jurisdiction. Job Brief We are looking for an enthusiastic intern to join our Public Information Office and provide creative ideas to help achieve our goals. You will have administrative duties in developing and implementing marketing and community engagement strategies. As a public relations and marketing intern, you will collaborate with the Public Information Director and Flood Protection Authority Program Administrative Director to help improve the marketing and communications materials in use. Your insightful contribution will help develop, expand and maintain our marketing channels and material. This internship will help you acquire marketing skills and provide you with knowledge of various public relations strategies. Ultimately, you will gain broad experience in public relations and marketing and should be prepared to enter any fast paced work environment. Responsibilities • Social media posting, monitoring, and management • Collecting quantitative and qualitative data for monthly reports • Supporting the Public Information Office in daily administrative tasks • Assist in communications activities (e.g. social media, direct mail and web) • Prepare presentations • Monitor website traffic • Help distribute marketing materials • Help organize events / facility tours Requirements • Strong desire to learn along with professional drive • Solid understanding of different communications techniques • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Excellent knowledge of MS Office • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud applications • Passion for the public relations / marketing and its best practices • Current enrollment in a related undergraduate degree or Master's degree program
