Department Summary The Knight Campus Internship Program (KCIP) trains students in real-world knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in the industrial or clinical research laboratory – and at the interview table. The KCIP seeks to provide high quality, efficient instruction in market-engaged, applied science programsleading to career success after graduation. Position Summary The KCIP is seeking an enthusiastic, people-oriented, motivated individual to recruit and advise students who are focused on building professional opportunities in biology, chemistry, physics and related technical sectors. This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage people of all backgrounds while promoting a unique career-focused graduate program. Modes of program promotion include face-to-face meetings, group presentations, phone conversations, and e-mail correspondence. Additional responsibilities will include oversight of academic advising, student retention, and marketing. This position will report to the Director of the Bioinformatics & Genomics Master’s Program, with additional mentorship provided by KCIP team members. This position will fulfill the growing need for recruitment and student mentoring as the program expands and adds new tracks. The Recruiter will be instrumental in managing and implementing recruitment endeavors and developing program goals and strategic plans. Primary responsibilities will pertain to the recruitment and retention of Master’s students within the KCIP, which includes two focus areas: the Bioinformatics & Genomics Master’s Program and the Master’s Industrial Internship Program. This position will function within a larger recruitment team and all job responsibilities will connect to the successful recruitment, retention, and internship placement of students enrolled in the KCIP. The Recruiter should demonstrate exemplary customer service by working respectfully and collaboratively with prospective and current students, alumni, faculty, program directors, and administrators. Successful applicants should be able to work well both independently and within a team – and enjoy building relationships with students, program staff and faculty, both at the University of Oregon and external institutions. Additional Expectations Of Position • Ability to travel up to 30% during recruiting season (October-December). • Ability to obtain a valid driver’s license and a UO Driver’s Certification; Recruiter may occasionally provide student transportation to recruiting events and conferences. Minimum Requirements • A Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, physical sciences or related fields. • Two years of experience in recruitment, sales, relationship development, customer service or related professional experience. Professional Competencies • Demonstrated ability to communicate information to audiences with varying degrees of subject matter knowledge (beginners to experts). • Strong work ethic and self-motivated approach toward achieving results as part of a team. • Ability to represent the program in a professional manner, and follow all university policies and procedures. • Demonstrated organizational, time management, multi-tasking, and planning capabilities. • Computer skills including proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new systems quickly. • Strong attention to detail. Preferred Qualifications • Advanced degree in journalism, communications, public relations, physical sciences or related fields. • At least three years in recruiting, sales, customer service or similar position requiring communication to diverse audiences. • At least one year of academic advising and/or career counseling experience. • Experience with desktop publishing, web design, and/or social media. • Prior work and understanding of diversity, inclusion, or equity initiatives. • Experience giving formal presentations to groups.
