In this role, you will supervise a unit of Financial Services Specialists who are responsible for gathering information regarding public assistance for numerous programs and correctly determining the client's eligibility. The ideal applicant will possess skills to develop, cultivate, and evolve the staff they lead and be creative in helping their staff obtain job experience and knowledge in regards to their ultimate career goals while encouraging discussion of promotion and foster an environment of growth. Some of what you'll do • Establish unit workloads and quality standards • Controls overall flow of work processed by the unit • Create a supportive environment that allows staff to advance and succeed through coaching and mentoring • Conduct regular and productive unit and 1:1 meetings with staff • Conduct or arranging for timely technical and job development training for staff • Provide instructions and interpretations regarding policies, procedures, or laws governing eligibility and work performance • Coordinate services with community partners, other state agencies, Local Area Planning networks, and other Community Services Division partners • Complete yearly employee performance evaluations • Attend meetings locally and across the state with possible overnight travel What we're looking for • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to adapt to each staff persons learning and communication styles • Ability to create a positive work environment that supports collaboration, transparency, trust, and accountability • Ability to build effective working relationships • Knowledge of management principles and operating methods • Ability to exhibit tact, courtesy, and discretion in all work situations • Ability to make critical decisions, based on integration of information from multiple sources that may be discrepant, in high-stress situations • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail • Knowledge of federal and state public assistance rules, regulations, and processes as applied in Washington State • Ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing with management, peers, direct staff, clients, and the public • Someone willing to have difficult conversations to find mutual resolutions and support for the issue at hand • Experienced supervisors/managers with at least six months of Financial Services Specialist experience is desirable Who should apply Professionals with one year of experience as a Financial Service Specialist 3 or 4 or equivalent education/experience.
