-Working Title - Program Coordinator for New Student Programs Posting Number - NFE00505P Department - SDSU-Student Union & Activities Physical Location of Position (City) - Brookings Posting Text The Program Coordinator for New Student Programs is a member of the University Student Union management team as well as a member of the Student Affairs Division, which is committed to the implementation of a practical student development philosophy. The successful candidate will join a dynamic, progressive student activities/union program dedicated to the continuing personal development of students and staff. SDSU is especially interested in candidates that can contribute to and/or address the experiences of underrepresented minorities in organizations. RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for the development and administration of the Orientation Leader (OL) staff to include: recruitment, selection training, scheduling, evaluation, and supervision of up to 30 OL’s for the New Student Orientation (NSO) program. Develop, challenge, and assist student leaders with leadership, management, interpersonal, and other paraprofessional skills. Assist with the coordination of the NSO program to include: publications, web page maintenance, database administration, email/phone communication, and social media. Coordination and program support for other new student programs, including move-in weekend, weekend programming, common read, and other programs that may develop at SDSU that support student success. Additional work hours may include evening meetings, programs/events, retreats, and travel related to training and recruitment. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Earned Master’s Degree by start date. Experience with recruitment, orientation, advising, or other college first-year programs. Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff. Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience training and supervising student staff. Customer service experience. Experience with Microsoft software, particularly Excel and Publisher. Experience with web design and update. Experience with producing publications for external audiences. Ability to apply student development theory.
