Job SummaryA highly experienced research lab technician / manager is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Kim Tieu at the Florida International University (the Modesto A. Maidique main campus located in Miami). The major research focus of this lab is to study pathogenic mechanisms and to develop therapeutic strategies for Parkinsons disease. This highly selective candidate will work closely and communicate effectively with the Principal Investigator and other lab members on a daily basis. Responsible for conducting experiments using cell culture and rodent models, which invariably will require trouble-shooting, the development of new methodology, and will necessitate latitude to exercise independent judgment with regard to the modification of existing scientific protocols. Will recommend solutions as needed.
Responsible for breeding and maintenance of mouse colonies and genotyping, as well as, perform a variety of animal behavioral tasks based on research needs. Maintains detailed records, writes and revises scientific protocols. Records and analyzes experimental data, draws preliminary conclusions based upon the data, and makes recommendations to the Principal Investigator with regards to the next step in the project. Assists the Principal Investigator with writing grants and manuscripts for publication, including preparation of charts, graphs, tables, illustrations and analyze data. Collaborates with other investigators and laboratory personnel in other laboratories as needed, depending on scientific experiments and research directions. Orders, receives and maintains inventories to ensure laboratory is well stocked in advance of planned experiments. If required, prepare and maintain stock solutions and buffers for the laboratory. Ensures that all laboratory members are compliant with required regulations for use of laboratory animals and general laboratory health and safety. Assists and trains other technicians, students, and postdocs on research techniques, animal husbandry, handling, and management for their independent projects Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of experience or Master’s degree. Experience with animal handling and husbandry. A strong background in molecular biology, neuroscience or biomedical science. Desired Qualifications Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong work ethics, analytical and organizational skills, ability to multitask, able to work both independently and collaboratively with lab members. Last but not least, a strong curiosity and passion for science! Advertised Salary$45,000 – $50,000, salary commensurate with experience.This is a full-time position (40 hours/week), but the candidate must be available to work some evenings and weekends as duties require.
