The UAF School of Education is accredited by the national Council for Accreditation of Education Preparation (CAEP). Duties: 20%Service: Provide a wide range of service at the department, school, college and university level. This includes serving on committees, participating in accreditation and continuous assessment activities, completing tasks related to admission of applicants
to the internship year; and contributing to on-going elementary department professional development. Assist in the advising of elementary undergraduate and post-bac students with an interest in early childhood, and assist in the coordination of an early childhood minor leading to endorsement at UAFEssential 20%Supervision: Provide in-school supervision to student teaching interns in the south central area Assist with locating placements in south central schools for undergraduate elementary teacher students who are completing practicum requirements for education foundation coursework prior to the internship year, as well as assisting with placements for south central based interns in their final year of preparationEssential 60%Teaching: Teach elementary education courses that are required for the diverse population of students in the BA in Elementary (BAE) degree and in the Elementary Post-Baccalaureate License/Certificate program Teach face-to-face education courses in Anchorage Familiarity with distance delivery strategies using synchronous technology approaches is preferred as distance delivery instruction may be a small component of the position Teach education courses at the lower and upper divisions and some at the graduate level (as part of the post-bac licensure sequence). Required courses include education foundation courses (e.g., Introduction to Education, Children's Literature) and internship year courses including methods courses which are offered in all of the major subject areas, classroom management, collaboration and communication, and facilitation of the year-long internship Collaborate closely with elementary faculty and advisors since elementary degree and program courses, curriculum, fieldwork, assignments and assessments are closely integrated Facilitate the Anchorage based monthly mentor/intern seminar for interns in their final year of supervision and their cooperating teachersEssential The successful candidates will: teach elementary education foundation and methods courses in Anchorage; supervise elementary student teaching interns in Anchorage; assist in advising Anchorage based students with an interest in early childhood as well as elementary education; and provide service for the elementary department, the SOE, and UAF (e.g. service related to accreditation, assessment and admissions). The UAF Elementary Department will be providing a BA in Elementary Education degree and an Elementary Post-Baccalaureate graduate-level licensure program to students in face-to-face settings in Anchorage, including on-site supervisor visits. The Department focuses on providing relevant, meaningful, place-based coursework and fieldwork in the unique and highly diverse cross-cultural Alaska context, and emphasizes core practices in teaching as the foundation of the preparation process. Close collaboration among the team of elementary faculty and academic advisors is required to support the alignment between required readings, assignments, assessments, and fieldwork experiences in all required education courses.
