Advertised Summary Job Description Reporting to the Executive Director of Foundation Relations, the Associate Director of Foundation Relations will play a key role in helping to grow the foundation and corporate prospect pool, focusing on high level funding opportunities, particularly those that align with the Columbia University Irving Medical Center's (CUIMC) mission and priorities. In addition, the Associate Director will staff the Columbia University Center for Radiological Research (CRR) - a foremost leader in radiological science research and its applications in clinical medicine, public health, and national defense - working closely with the Executive Director to raise funds from institutions and individuals. The incumbent will provide support to senior development staff who have a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects, consisting largely of foundations and corporations, with a primary focus on activities that will cultivate relationships with major gift prospects to support research, education and patient care, spanning multiple disciplines at CUIMC as well as for the CRR. Essential Functions
1. Conduct foundation and corporate prospect research: Effectively utilize tools to identify new corporate and foundation prospects whose giving interests align with the CUIMC's priority funding needs. Actively mine for recent postings of request for applications/proposals at the major and principal award level. Assist with qualifying newly identified prospects to determine viability for solicitation. 15% 2. Prepare foundation and corporate profiles: Draft foundation and corporate profiles, as well as strategy briefings, noting funding interests, application guidelines or engagement strategy and other pertinent information. 15% 3. Develop cultivation, solicitation and stewardship communications, and supporting materials: Draft acknowledgment letters, stewardship reports and select solicitation materials; complete grant applications; and assist with developing accompanying budgets and other supportive material. 15% 4. Assist with all aspects of institutional and individual fundraising for the CRR: Define priority fundraising needs in consultation with the CRR Director; identify and assess prospects, including corporations, foundations and individuals, to determine funding capacity; develop strategies to expand the CRR donor prospect pool; draft cultivation, solicitation and stewardship materials; actively engage the CRR Advisory Council (AC) in supporting the CRR's fundraising efforts, coordinate CRR AC meetings and events, and expand membership; contribute to the preparation of the CRR fundraising work plan covering the objectives (eg, planned cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities) for the fiscal year; and manage specific projects and related activities as assigned. Over time, the Associate Director will be expected to work more independently and take on 60-70% of CRR fundraising. 50% 5. Assist with special CFR projects, as assigned. 5% Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications Demonstrated ability to develop productive relationships with internal and external constituents such as donors, prospects, volunteers, medical leaders, and scientific faculty. Excellent ability to set priorities and perform in a fast-paced environment. Highly motivated self-starter, demonstrates excellent judgment and discretion, resilience, and with a high level of independent decision making. Excellent written and oral communication skills, plus interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills required. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook is a must
