Position Description The Investigator provides assistance to attorneys representing clients of the Public Defenders. This position involves working on assignments of an extremely sensitive and confidential nature associated with investigations and legal proceedings. • Makes outside, face-to-face and collateral contact with clients, witnesses, and law enforcement as required. • Conducts sensitive/confidential administrative interviews. • Investigates concerning allegations of misconduct, malfeasance, or violations of laws, rules, or regulations. • Gathers, preserves, and analyzes evidence; obtains information via interviews and other methods; prepares investigative reports. • Collects, analyzes, and interprets information, documentation, and physical evidence. • Documents statements, observations, and evidentiary materials. • Prepares case reports on all investigative action taken; ensures that reports are well-written, accurate, concise, thorough, and timely. • Maintains records of all information and material pertinent to pending investigations; identifies, labels, and stores evidence and ensures the security of all pertinent stored evidence and information gathered during the investigative process. • Testifies in administrative and criminal court proceedings as necessary. • Keeps current on agency and state policies, rules, regulations, and statutes. • Performs other duties as required or assigned that are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. Requirements • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Corrections, Counseling, Law, Law Enforcement, Police Science, Pre-law, Psychology, Sociology or other degree directly related to the investigative field. • Knowledge of Texas statutes, rules, and regulations concerning conflicts of interest and malfeasance. • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish. • Good written and oral communication skills. • Effective organizational and time management skills required to successfully execute job duties. • Possesses the skill to manage a demanding caseload of cases using interviewing and evidence-based practices. • Strong analytical and problem solving skills. • High personal ethical standards due to sensitive content of work materials. • Flexibility to work independently as well as in a team environment. • Ability to organize work and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines. • Ability to gather, collate and classify information about data, people or things. • Ability to complete multiple tasks and assignments with frequent interruptions. • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, and the ability to interact professionally with others. • Ability to write letters, papers and reports. • Ability to handle sensitive telephone and face-to-face inquiries and contacts with general public. • Valid driver's license (Texas by hire date).
