South Carolina Retirement Yes State Insurance Programs Yes Annual Leave Yes Sick Leave Yes Position Description Advertised Job Summary A three-year postdoctoral position studying the mechanisms that regulate Transposable Element behavior is available in Hancock laboratory at the University of South Carolina Aiken. The Hancock lab studies the factors that regulate the rate, integration pattern, and replication of the mPing element from rice. Current research projects focus on determining the architecture of the transposition complex, the cellular localization of the transposase proteins, and the role of chromatin structure and DNA replication mechanism on transposition. This will include yeast one and two hybrid experiments, confocal microscopy, and yeast and Arabidopsis transposition assays. USC Aiken is consistently ranked as the #1 Regional Comprehensive Public College in the South (U.S. News & World Report) and has a strong record of undergraduate research. This position will include mentoring of undergraduate students and participation in a research intensive laboratory course during one semester a year. This opportunity will be excellent training for those considering a career that balances research and teaching. The successful applicant will also be responsible for preparation of research reports.
