13805BR Bureau of Child Research Position Overview The position will be a full-time (1.0 FTE) research dedicated fellowship of up to 3 years, depending on the stage of training of the incoming trainee and their rate of progress. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Start date is flexible beginning June 1, 2019 or later. The position is located in Lawrence, Kansas in the Dole Human Development Center (1000 Sunnyside Avenue). Trainees may receive training in a variety of research areas depending upon their interests. Trainees will be expected to both advance their own program of research as well as collaborating in ongoing projects associated with one or more program faculty. There will be a significant emphasis on professional development as well including training on starting and running an independent lab, writing manuscripts for publication, disseminating results and grant writing. Fellows will be expected to submit their own application for external funding to a major federal agency or private foundation (e.g., NIH, Autism Speaks, IES, etc.). Fellows will be expected to develop collaborations with University of Kansas faculty interested in intellectual and developmental disabilities including autism spectrum disorders. They will also have the opportunity to gain valuable research experiences working with collaborators at KU and the KU Medical Center. Fellows will • 70% - Work with assigned mentor(s) on research projects relevant to IDD or autism. Activities may include research design and analysis, test administration, data collection, study design, grant writing, and participation in lab meetings, dissemination of research findings in peer reviewed journals and nation/international scientific meetings. • 30% - Work with your mentor(s) to develop your individual program of research including research design and analysis, grant writing, and presentations/publications. Required Qualifications • Completed PhD in a discipline related to intellectual and developmental disabilities such as cognitive neuroscience, communication science and disorders, development and/or clinical psychology, special education, and related disciplines. • At least three years of doctoral or combined doctoral/postdoctoral experience conducting research relevant to intellectual and development disabilities/ASD. • Excellent writing and analytic skills as evidenced by application materials and peer-reviewed publications and/or presentations on IDD or ASD. NOTE: To be appointed at the Postdoctoral Researcher title, it is necessary to have the PhD conferred at the time of hire. Appointments made without a diploma or certified transcript indicating an earned doctorate are conditional hires and are appointed on an acting basis not to exceed 6-months. Upon verification of degree the appointment will be extended to its full duration. Preferred Qualifications • History of conducting and presenting research relevant to intellectual and developmental disabilities. • Experience with statistics and advanced quantitative methods.
