This position will also support PP&R UF's tree planting program, monitoring recently planted trees on private properties around the city. Duties will include the following: • Conduct Park Tree Inventory workshops with volunteers in Portland neighborhoods. This includes public speaking, training volunteers, organizing logistics, and checking data for accuracy. • Collect tree data, including tree identification, measurement, and assessment using mobile ArcGIS. • Manage and analyze data in Excel and ArcGIS.This position will work regularly outdoors in all weather conditions, requires long periods of standing and walking over uneven terrain, and lifting and carrying of items up to 30 pounds. Valid driver's license required. With thousands of susceptible elms throughout the city, DED would have a catastrophic impact on Portland's urban forest if allowed to prevail unchecked. PP&R Urban Forestry works diligently to manage the impact of DED in Portland. The Seasonal Elm Monitor works closely with the public to answer questions and conducts field monitoring, sampling, and data collection to control the spread of DED in the city. Duties will include the following: • Monitor Portland's 2,000+ elm population for symptoms of Dutch elm disease. Requires travel throughout the city, visual inspection for symptoms, and recording inspection results. • Maintain tree inspection records, collect samples and send for lab analysis, and work with City tree inspectors and property owners during the removal of infected trees. • Collect tree data, including tree identification, measurement, and assessment using mobile ArcGIS.
