The Boulder County Assessor's Office has an opening for a Business Personal Property Appraiser I to perform a variety of complex computational, technical and record-keeping duties associated with business personal property. The Appraiser will be working within a team structure and will be expected to be able to work cooperatively with team members. This position will be responsible for: processing personal property declarations; applying cost, market and income approaches to value in accordance with statutory guidelines; understanding all aspects of personal property assessments; explaining tax laws and assessment processes to taxpayers. The Appraiser I is a full time, benefited position with Boulder County. Work hours will be 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. The Appraiser will work out of the Courthouse building located in downtown Boulder, CO. Under FLSA guidelines this position is classified as non-exempt.
Hiring salary: $3,855 per month Classification salary range $3,855 to $5,551 per month • Determines the value of personal property by using cost, market and income approaches • Educates taxpayers in the assessment process and procedures used to arrive at actual and assessed values • Works with taxpayers in handling appeals and defends values at all hearing and court levels • Contacts businesses and individuals to gather information pertinent to listing property for assessment purposes • Schedules audits, examines ledgers and examines associated records of businesses for discrepancies and insures accurate filings • Researches and prepares tax roll changes • Performs field reviews on properties with outstanding building permits to establish market value changes resulting from changes from building characteristics • Performs related work as required and other duties, as assigned • May be reassigned in emergency situations PLEASE NOTE: When submitting your application be sure to include all relevant education and experience, as applications are screened based on the qualifications listed in this position announcement. EDUCATION: • A high school diploma, or equivalentEXPERIENCE: • Two years of appraisal, accounting or auditing of business personal property, or related real estate experienceAdditional related education may count toward required experience.
