Description of Work Salary Grade GN13 - Recruitment range $$48,051 - $57,619 Internal Posting for Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Employees Only current DEQ employees or those with RIF priority are eligible to apply The primary purpose of this position is to carry out enforcement of Marine
Fisheries General Statutes and Regulations and to provide field supervision at the district level. Supervisor provides administrative guidance to subordinates and sets general work priorities in the work area. This person will work with the district supervisor in designing patrol plans and assignments for the officers assigned to his/her area of coverage. This individual will assist in ensuring that the best utilization of staff and resources. This employee will work with and supervise the individuals assigned to determine job strengths and weaknesses and to improve performance. The individual in this position will be responsible for making field decisions. This employee will insure command in their area of coverage in the absence of the district Supervisor and/or Manager. Any information omitted from the application form, listed under the text resume section, or on an attachment will not be considered for qualifying credit. • Thorough knowledge of Marine Fisheries enforcement policies and guidelines, state and federal laws that pertain to Marine Fisheries enforcement, North Carolina General Statutes and Fisheries Rules for Coastal Waters, and Marine Fisheries proclamations. • Thorough knowledge of Division of Criminal Information rules, policies, and procedures; National Marine Fisheries regulations; and Marine Fisheries rules and regulations. • Thorough knowledge of navigational charts and county/state maps. • Skilled in operation of a patrol vessel. • Ability to supervise and manage staff performance. NOTE This position's Northern work boundary will be from Kitty Hawk Road, running South to Ocracoke and will include the Roanoke Sound, Oregon Inlet and the eastside of the Pamlico Sound. A skills test will be administered to all interviewed candidates. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor's degree in a related field from an appropriately accredited institution, and three years of progressive law enforcement experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Basic Law Enforcement Certification under North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission. Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.
