Federal Safety and Occupational Health Specialist D Job in JEFFERSONVILLE, IN federalgovernmentjobs.us | No Government Logins | No Fees | Free Email Alerts This position is located in the Safety Section, Support Services Branch (SSB) of the U.S. Census Bureau s National Processing Center (NPC). This section has responsibility for planning, directing, and coordinating the NPC’s security and safety programs. The purpose of this position is to provide planning, coordination, and evaluation of the Center’s safety program. This position is not included in the bargaining unit. The individual selected for this position will: • Coordinate with local emergency responders who will respond to suspicious substances in mail envelopes or suspicious packages and will determine whether a hazard exists; • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate measures related to program goals, including comprehensive safety plans, policy and procedural guidelines, hazard identification and abatement, etc.; • Perform comprehensive safety inspections (planned and unscheduled) of NPC’s facilities and operations, and document findings; • Review and analyze accident and illness data to assess environmental conditions which may affect safety of NPC personnel; • Investigate and/or analyze accidents, reports of hazardous or unsafe conditions, etc. and prepare reports; • Promote safety awareness in the Center through such safety education activities as publicizing program requirements and safety standards, planning/delivering safety training, development/distribution of safety policy and procedural documents, and other similar techniques; • Monitor effectiveness of NPC’s safety program efforts and provide guidance, recommendations, and assistance to managers and supervisors to increase program awareness and minimize unsafe conditions; • Be responsible for seeing that the Center is in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines of hazardous material and disposal in the work place; • Prepare and update the Center’s Safety/Security Manual and update the OSHA 300 log. Tour of Duty: Monday through Friday, 8-hour days, hours ranging between 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Alternate Work Schedule is not available
