Position Description Harris County Public Library - North Channel Branch Library The Assistant Branch Manager will serve with oversight and responsibility for the Youth Services
Department.Job Duties & Responsibilities
• Role models the high standards and expectations for the library in its daily operations and services • Cultivates cooperative relationships with local school librarians and teachers, and actively participates in outreach to the community • Interviews, trains, supervises, schedules and evaluates the professional and paraprofessional staff providing library services to all customers • Establishes goals and priorities for Young Adult Services • Supervises the library in the absence of the Branch Manager • Oversees the development and maintenance of the Young Adult materials collection • Provides reader's advisory and reference services • Identifies customer needs in the community; plans and provides services to meet those needs • Works with Librarians to develop and implement programs for all ages in the Library and community • Organizes library programming and displays for young adults • Develops a year-round youth volunteer program • Maintains an awareness of young adult literature and services • Maintains current knowledge and keeps track of emerging technology • Operates and maintains library equipment; collects data for statistical analysis and reports • Implements and interprets library policies and procedures for library customers and staff • Attends and participates in professional activities, conference, staff meetings and committees • Maintains an awareness of professional trends, methods and ethics • Performs other duties as assigned Harris County is an Equal Opportunity Employer https://hrrm.harriscountytx.gov/Pages/EqualEmploymentOpportunityPlan.aspx Requirements • Master of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited school • A minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Librarian • Previous experience working with teen-aged young adults • Ability to supervise staff and organize work priorities, and work well with the public and staff members to provide services and programs for all customers • Physical ability to perform all of the above duties and responsibilities NOTE: Qualifying education, experience, knowledge and skills must be documented on your job application. Preferences • Prior supervisory experience • Strong technology background • Ability to provide individual or group instruction in use of modern technology General Information HOURS: • 40 hours a week • Includes Nights and Saturdays SALARY: • Employees are paid biweekly • Based on 26 Pay Periods Applicants invited for an interview will be responsible for their own travel expenses.
