Detailed Description: The Director of Development for the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) is charged with major gift fundraising duties for the School. With the Dean, the director develops a comprehensive fundraising program for private support from faculty, staff, alumni, friends of CAS, other individuals, corporations, and foundations to solicit donors at all levels to CAS, but with a particular emphasis on major gifts. The director of development for CAS develops strategies for identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors for all approved fundraising priorities at CAS and other areas at USD when appropriate. S/he will report to the Associate Vice President, Development and manage a Development and Marketing Assistant. Specific Duties Include: Work directly with the CAS deans, faculty, department heads, institutes and centers to identify, plan, coordinate and implement fundraising priorities. Work with faculty and CAS departments to promote new relationships and enhance existing relationships with potential donors. Collaborate with CAS Director of Marketing and Communications in promoting CAS and its mission; assist in developing communication strategies, leverage planned event content and scheduling, and identify opportunities for media coverage as required. Collaborate with departments to plan and coordinate fundraising communications, publications, brochures, and special events. Actively participate in supporting major CAS goals and activities, such as student recruiting and retention, Commencement, Distinguished Alumni selections, class gifts and career development and placement opportunities. Provide regular quantitative reports tof the CAS leadership team and faculty regarding short and long-term fundraising goals, results and challenges. Establish and maintain long-term relationships with alumni and parents that lead to the solicitation of gifts resulting in increasing both number and amount of contributions. Work closely with the Offices of Advancement Services, Foundation Relations, Alumni Relations, Annual Giving, Stewardship and Parent Relations to identify new qualified prospects and implement fundraising strategies and develop cultivation and solicitation strategies for assigned prospects. Work closely with the Office of Planned Giving to help secure deferred and estate gifts. Achieve fundraising goals as established by the Dean and the Associate Vice President of Development. Oversee CAS s annual Employee Giving Campaign. Write proposals for major gift requests for capital project naming opportunities, scholarships, Centers and Institutes, Chairs and Professorships and other priorities as determined by the Dean and CAS leadership team. With the Dean, plan and co-host visits by prospects,donors, or their representatives. Oversee the day-to-day administration of development administration, including consistent review of gift processing for accuracy, writing and sending thank you letters, developing and managing the annual operating plan, etc. Develop relationships with colleagues at peer institutions and work collaboratively with colleagues. Attend conferences and professional development seminars to stay current with fundraising policies/procedures and participate in San Diego community events and activities, as needed, to represent the Dean and CAS. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of seven years experience in fundraising, including demonstrable management and administrative skills. Note: additional education may be substituted for years of experience (examples: Master s degree plus five years of fundraising experience). The successful candidate will have a willingness and ability to travel, a proven ability to collect, analyze and present data, and exceptional written and oral communication skills. S/he will have an understanding of the full spectrum of development, including gift policies; donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship; donor recognition; prospect research; high level boards; support groups and administration. The Director also will have a proven record of cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts, along with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, advancement professionals, academic administrators, senior executives, and trustees of the university. Preferred Qualifications: Master s degree strongly preferred; experience in higher education preferred.
